Overview

Client: Austin Pets Alive!

Background: Austin Pets Alive! (APA) is not your average animal shelter. We pioneer comprehensive, innovative programs designed to save the animals most at risk for euthanasia.

Role: Lead UX Designer, Information Architect, Researcher, Visual Designer

Tools: Figma, Sketch, Invision, Trello

The Challenge

APA wants to help connect pets to foster homes to get time outside the shelter and make space for incoming pets who need help.

My Solution

I believe that by designing an application to connect the shelter, fosters, and adopters we can make the process of fostering and adopting pets in need, less stressful and successfully rehome animals in danger of being euthanized.

Research

Client Goals and Needs

After interviewing volunteers involved with APA I found that the largest group of people that I could impact would be those in the foster program. There are over 700 foster homes in Austin and they need to communicate with the shelter as well as screen, schedule, and provide information to potential adopters.

Current Resources Available to Fosters

The current information available to fosters and adopters is spread across three websites, the APA website, a foster specific site, and a trello board with urgent need cases that is updated daily. There are also shared google documents, youtube videos, and facebook pages to connect volunteers. There is no shortage of information or people willing to help. However the information is spread out and extremely difficult to keep track of.
